The People`s road to Vetti

The five kilometer long road Vettisvegen, or Folkevegen, which one calls it in Årdal, goes from Hjelle through the valley of Utladalen to the two farms in Vetti. The road was built in the years 1973-1977 as a splitting team effort between private and public parties. The road crosses the river several times. Hiking on Vettisvegen is a "journey" of rare nature and culture.

Folkevegen was a gigantic splitting team-project, where both young and old, women and men, worked together to realize the road connecting the farms in Vetti to the rest of town. In the past, there was a footpath here, adapted to horses and people.

It took 5 years, and 50,000 hours, to realize the project, which has rightly been referred to as the largest splitting team-project in recent time.
